Movie Review: Hacksaw Ridge

Mike Thayer 2016 (2)By Mike Thayer

I am a war movie fan, a Mel Gibson fan, so when it was announced that Hacksaw Ridge was hitting the theaters, I was looking forward to seeing it.

The movie is based on the true story of Pfc. Desmond Doss, a pacifist combat medic, who refused to carry a weapon during WWII based on religious grounds.

I can describe this movie in one word:  INTENSE

It starts out as the fairly typical war movie lead in with some romance, almost 'chick-flick' like.......  But it is after all a Mel Gibson directed film.  He doesn't disappoint.  The war/battle scenes were graphic, many times audience members were jumping or gasping.

If you want to see a real hero in action, about a man who saved 75 lives without firing a shot in the bloodiest battle of WWII, then you MUST see this film.  Telling you much more would create a spoiler alert.....

Director:  Mel Gibson
