Auntie C's Restaurant - Wichita

Auntie C's RestaurantAuntie C’s got its name from owner Cheryl having 28 nieces and nephews that call her Aunt C.

The decor was chosen due to being in the center of the Chisholm Trail, so western was a perfect fit. All decor is donated by customers, and each piece has a story to go along with it. A lot of customers have been coming in since we opened, and everyone knows each other, adding to the down-home feel.

Jorge is the cook and has been here for 15 years. He is responsible for all the amazing food that comes out of the kitchen including hand breaded chicken fries, steak fingers, fresh hamburger patties cooked on a broiler, made from scratch pancakes and whip to perfection omelets. We also have homemade peanut butter pie topped with whip cream and chocolate sauce, made from scratch chili, chicken noodles, ham and beans and sweet cornbread.

We have a large restaurant that will seat 130 people. We rent the space for parties and provide catering. Weddings, birthday parties, receptions, church gatherings, you name it.

We also have gift certificates in any increment.

Country Kitchen - Wichita

Country KitchenCountry Kitchen began with a dream . . . . .
It started with the vision of an enterprising young boy by the name of Bill Johnson. At the age of 14, Bill Johnson left his Kentucky home and headed for the "big city" of Cincinnati, Ohio. He was armed with only an eighth-grade education and a pocket full of change. Bill's future began when he was hired to work at a hamburger stand. The hamburger stand business required a strong work ethic and a knack for getting along with people. Bill Johnson had an abundance of both. He also had the drive to take the next step. In 1939 he and a friend, Bill Goodman, pooled their resources, totaling $400, and made a down payment on some restaurant equipment. They rented an empty storefront and opened a restaurant. The sign out front read "Country Kitchen." Customers began coming in for great-tasting hamburgers for only a nickel (or six for a quarter) and for delicious steak sandwiches for a dime.

"Treat folks special."
Bill Johnson's philosophy about business was quite simple, but highly effective: "Treat folks special." That ethic, along with appetizing food, helped Country Kitchen catch on. Within three short years business increased enough to allow the opening of another Country Kitchen Restaurant. As word got around about the quality of the restaurants, more and more Country Kitchens opened their doors. By 1958, Bill Johnson began offering franchises across the nation.

Change is good.
Perhaps more than any other restaurant in history, the Country Kitchen concept evolved to meet the changing lifestyles of our guests. Through the years we have served guests as a nickel hamburger stand, or as a full-service diner, then a hip drive-in, to a breakfast & coffee shop, and today our guests enjoy a contemporary full-service restaurant.

Today's Leadership
The Country Kitchen brand continues to flourish and is poised for significant growth in the upcoming years. Country Kitchen's corporate office is based in Madison, WI.

For over 45 years, Cracker Barrel has been the trusted home-away-from-home for millions of Americans. We began as a homegrown business and continue to be guided by our original core values.  We believe in warm welcomes and friendly service.  We believe in Pleasing People and treating our employees and our guests as part of our family.

For us, one of the things that Pleasing People means is preparing each and every one of our menu items with great care.

We are committed to providing our guests with high-quality, homestyle food. If we can’t source quality ingredients that meet our high standards for a particular dish, we simply don’t serve it. This commitment to quality ingredients is how we provide authentic, country style cooking that is rooted in real, homestyle recipes.  It’s also how we keep our menu fresh and exciting with new seasonal dishes and continue to offer the best value to our guests.

The bottom line is, at Cracker Barrel we do our best to source high quality ingredients for our recipes because our guests deserve it.

And we’ve been doing that since we opened our doors in 1969.

Butler’s stated promise was “To serve the best cup of coffee, make the best donuts, give the best service, offer the best value and stay open 24 hours a day.” Today that donut stand is a restaurant chain with a slightly different name, over 1,700 locations and a proven reputation for keeping Mr. Butler’s original promise.

Jimmie's Diner - Wichita

Jimmie's DinerThe history of Wichita would not be complete without two names: Walter L. Anderson and A.J. “Jimmie” King.

Walter Anderson started our nation’s first hamburger stand in a rented and remodeled streetcar in Wichita. It was so successful that he opened two more and in 1921 — when Wichita was bustling with 75,000 people — he opened his fourth. It was constructed to represent what was to be its official name: White Castle, a symbol of purity, cleanliness and stability. Maintaining these high standards, White Castle found notoriety in Wichita and the Midwest.

A young entrepreneur, A.J. King went to work in the White Castle restaurants, where he quickly caught the eye of management. He mastered all phases of the business early on. King purchased the Wichita branch of White Castle in 1938 and changed the name to Kings-X. His management skills and dedication to quality were what carried the venture through the turbulent World War II years, and expansion began almost immediately. The public responded well to good food, cleanliness and reasonable prices. The King family management astutely predicted the public’s changing needs, and the businesses were expanded into full-service family restaurants.

The Kings’ son, Wayne, built and opened Jimmie’s Diner on North Rock Road in 1987 as a tribute to his father. In 2007, Jimmie’s Diner and Kings-X were sold to fellow Wichitans Jack and Linda Davidson.

In 2008, the Davidsons’ son Joe joined the family business and currently serves as the general manager for the restaurants.

The spring of 2012 marked the 25th anniversary of Jimmie’s Diner, and the opening of a second Jimmie’s Diner location at George Washington Boulevard and Harry Street.  In January 2016, Jimmie’s Diner West opened at Tyler and 21st Street. Jack, Linda and Joe continue the commitment to high standards and serving the Wichita area. A far cry from the eight-stool hamburger stand of the ’20s, one thing has never changed: the dedication to service and quality.
